My standard website sprint takes 2 weeks only and includes kick-off workshop, design, testing and development.
My website approach is research based and tackles real user needs. I aim to solve real problems, instead of realising nice ideas.
Workshops are an important part of my approach. Through collaboration I am able to tap into the collective intelligence of a team.
For the Berlin based AI startup 2txt, I went through my short website journey. I built and designed 9 pages, including a collection for a blog. One of the main challenges was to design the website without any supplied custom imagery.
DirectAidUkraine was started in the first days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I supported the team by designing and developing the website. I worked off the graphic designs that were already made by the internal graphic designer.
For the Berlin based architecture startup Home One I was hired to design and develop their website. I went through medium website sprint with them, working closely with the head of marketing.
For Service Hero I designed and developed their lead generation website for their pest control branch. I worked closely with the marketing team to adjust the pages or add new ones according to lead generation needs. In total I created more than 50 pages on Webflow, mostly using several collections.
I start every website sprint with a kick-off workshop. The aim of this workshop is to define what the website’s main purpose is. The three main topics are: target audience needs, branding and the structure of the website. The kick-off workshop may also be divided into three different workshops, depending on the scope of the website journey.
In this part of the website journey, I choose colours, typography and iterate on different designs of the hero (top section of the website). Usually I try out various directions and eventually we decide together which direction would be most fitting for the project.
In this part of the website journey I expand the chosen design direction to the rest of the website pages and create a functioning prototype within Figma. I won't go into refinement yet, as the prototype still needs to be tested.
Testing is part of every website journey I do. I usually test the website with at least 5 people that represent the target audience. With an open ear and eye I try to understand what is still in the way of a seamless website experience for the target audience.
The extent of the testing depends on the scope of the website project, though. After the user testing I analyse the test results and make adequate corrections to the designs in Figma. I also go into refinement of the designs and make them ready for development.
Once the designs are ready in Figma, I start the development process in Webflow. Usually this process is quite straightforward. Depending on the scope of the project this includes animations, collection elements or pages and implementation of basic SEO structure.
Once the website itself is finished I explain how to make changes to the text and pictures on the website with the Webflow editor. I also show my clients how to connect their website to a their custom domain. If there are more complicated procedures that have to be applied in the future by the clients themselves, I also create explanation videos, so they can independently take care of important changes on their website.
